Taeyeon
Kim Taeyeon (김태연) is the leader of Girls' Generation and one of the most acclaimed solo artists in K-pop history. Born March 9, 1989, in Jeonju, South Korea, she joined SM Entertainment through a talent search and trained for years before debuting with the nine-member group in August 2007. The group became one of South Korea's best-selling acts and introduced K-pop to a global mainstream audience.
Taeyeon launched her solo career in 2015 with the EP I, whose title track debuted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart. Her 2017 studio album My Voice produced three top-five hits: 11:11, Fine, and Make Me Love You. Purpose (2019) expanded her range with the number-one single Four Seasons. INVU (2022) matched that success with its title track reaching number one and Can't Control Myself becoming a global streaming hit. In November 2024, she released the mini album Letter to Myself. December 2025 marked her tenth solo anniversary, celebrated with Panorama: The Best of Taeyeon, a 24-track compilation of her defining work. She renewed her contract with SM Entertainment in January 2026.
Beyond her solo output, Taeyeon contributes to SM sub-projects including Girls' Generation-TTS, Oh!GG, and Got the Beat. She has hosted Queendom 2 on Mnet (2022) and remains a cast member of Amazing Saturday. Her voice has anchored some of K-drama's most memorable soundtracks, including All About You for Hotel del Luna (2019). With over 20 million digital singles sold and 2.8 million Spotify monthly listeners, she is among Korea's top-selling solo artists of her generation.

Fans Also Ask
Is Taeyeon the leader of Girls' Generation?
Yes. Taeyeon is the leader of Girls' Generation, the SM Entertainment group that debuted in August 2007 and became one of the most important acts in K-pop history. Her role inside the group also helped frame her as one of the era’s defining main vocalists.
When did Taeyeon start her solo career?
Taeyeon launched her solo career in 2015 with the EP I. The release immediately proved she could translate her Girls' Generation profile into a separate catalog built on sharper ballads, pop records, and a more introspective vocal identity of her own.
What are Taeyeon's biggest solo releases?
Her core solo releases include I, My Voice, Purpose, and INVU. Those projects established the shape of her solo catalog across power ballads, synth-pop, and darker mid-tempo material, while songs like Four Seasons, Weekend, and INVU kept her commercially relevant deep into her second decade.
What TV work is Taeyeon known for?
Taeyeon has been a visible TV personality through Amazing Saturday and high-profile music-program appearances, while her OST work has also become a major part of her public profile. Songs like If and All About You helped make her one of the most recognizable drama-soundtrack voices in Korean pop.
Why does Taeyeon still matter so much in K-pop?
Taeyeon remains central because she pairs first-tier vocal credibility with real catalog depth and long-term public trust. She is one of the rare second-generation idols whose solo work kept scaling after debut-era fame, which is why every new release still lands as an event rather than legacy maintenance.
