Arista Records

Arista Records is an American record label and imprint of Sony Music Entertainment. Founded in 1974 by Clive Davis, a former Columbia Records president and one of the most influential executives in the history of popular music, the label built its reputation on tastemaking A&R and long-term artist development. The label's foundational signings read like a hall of fame: Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, and Santana. Through the 1990s and 2000s, Arista expanded into R&B, hip-hop, and alternative with acts like TLC, OutKast, Dido, and Avril Lavigne. The label's A&R instincts consistently worked across genres, an unusual trait for major label imprints. Arista's K-pop chapter began in August 2024, when the label signed FIFTY FIFTY, the Korean girl group known for the viral hit Cupid, to a deal with Sony Music. The signing marked Arista's formal entry into the Korean pop market and validated FIFTY FIFTY's global commercial ambitions following a highly public dispute with their original agency ATTRAKT. The label has continued to expand its international profile, with Japanese hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts among its notable global signings. Today, Arista operates as an active Sony imprint with a diverse international roster spanning pop, R&B, and emerging global genres including K-pop and J-pop.
