Disney Cursed Love
Disney Cursed Love is Disney Publishing's WEBTOON-first romantasy initiative, announced at D23 2026 as a darker franchise-reading play built around some of Disney's most recognizable love stories. Instead of starting in bookstores and backfilling digital later, Disney positioned the line to launch first in vertical-scroll form, which makes mobile reading the front door rather than the afterthought.
The first announced title is The Curse of a Forsaken Heart, written by Emily McIntire and illustrated by Samairu. WEBTOON's official press release says the project will debut on the platform before expanding into print across multiple formats in 2027. That sequencing is the real story. Disney is treating scroll-native reading as franchise infrastructure, not a simple reformat of existing IP.
For HITKULTR, Disney Cursed Love matters because it shows Disney Publishing testing a more adult, platform-native packaging strategy at the intersection of fandom, mobile reading, and expandable print commerce. The initiative is less about one title than about whether WEBTOON can function as a franchise incubator for a major legacy brand.
