Chancellor

Chancellor (챈슬러), born Kim Jung-seung (김정승) on October 22, 1986, in Seoul, is a Korean-American singer-songwriter and producer who built his reputation at the intersection of R&B, hip-hop, and K-pop production. Raised in Los Angeles after his family emigrated when he was young, he studied Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music before returning to South Korea in 2009. He debuted as part of the R&B trio One Way in 2010, then co-founded the production duo Duble Sidekick with Park Jang-geun. The pair ranked among Korea's top ten hit-makers in 2012, producing for artists across the industry. Chancellor left to pursue solo work, releasing his debut album My Full Name in 2016 through Million Market. His self-titled second album arrived in October 2021 via Konnect Entertainment. Lead single "Midnight" featuring Gaeko landed on Billboard's "25 Best K-pop Songs of 2021: Critics' Picks," and Tidal named him a "K-pop Artist to Watch in 2022." That same year, he became the first Korean singer selected as a vocalist for the Grammy "ReImagined" series, a recognition of vocal ability that transcends genre boundaries. Beyond his solo catalog, Chancellor's production credits span work with Kang Daniel, Yuju, and the Japanese girl group XG, where he contributed to their debut album THE CORE alongside XGALX founder Simon Jakobs. He married in October 2022, and his daughter was born in October 2025. On February 23, 2026, Chancellor was arrested alongside Simon Jakobs at a Nagoya hotel on cocaine possession charges during XG's world tour. The arrest, which also involved two Avex Group employees, came after a year-long investigation by Japanese authorities.
