In My Idol, My Debut, MBC Plus and Minari Entertainment are not treating the fictional boy group Boy to the Moon like disposable story furniture. The project was pitched to continue through real music releases and stage activity, which gives Lee Jin Kyu a more expandable entry lane than a standard supporting-cast debut.

Cast coverage placed him beside Q, Lee Jin Hyuk, and Lee Ho Hyun inside the core Boy to the Moon lineup, which means the performance side of the project is not incidental.
