Lee Sang-soon
Lee Sang-soon (이상순) is one of Korean indie music's most quietly revered figures. A guitarist, singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and DJ, he built his reputation over two decades through bands, collaborations, and solo work that consistently prioritized atmosphere over pop mechanics.
He first appeared on the Korean music scene in the late 1990s through the modern rock band Baby Blue, before co-founding Roller Coaster (롤러코스터) with Cho Won-seon and Jinu in 1999. The band's catalog, headlined by songs like Habit (습관) and Cheer Up, Mr. Kim (힘을 내요, 미스터 김), left a lasting mark on Korean indie rock. Their work earned a Best Modern Rock Single at the 4th Korean Music Awards in 2007. Lee studied music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from 2006 to 2009, an experience that deepened his already distinctive approach to sound.
In 2010, he formed the Veranda Project with singer-songwriter Kim Dong-ryul, a short-lived duo that produced some of his most celebrated work. His first solo EP, Leesangsoon, arrived in June 2021 under Antenna, showcasing his signature blend of lyrical songwriting, warm guitar tones, and unhurried emotional intelligence. He followed that with the 2024 single A Perfect Day (완벽한 하루), which he also used as the name for his MBC FM4U radio show.
In 2026, he joined his wife Lee Hyori as co-host of the SBS Special series Mongle Mongle Mongle, South Korea's first dating show centered on young adults with developmental disabilities. He also produced the show's theme song, which Lee Hyori performed.
