Sungjin (DAY6)
Sungjin (성진), born Park Sung-jin (박성진) on January 16, 1993, in Busan, South Korea, is the leader, main vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of South Korean pop-rock band DAY6. After winning the Daesang at the 2009 CMB Chin Chin Youth Festival and appearing on Star King, he signed with JYP Entertainment as a trainee. He surfaced publicly in September 2013 on WIN: Who Is Next? alongside future DAY6 members, then appeared on Hidden Singer 2 in December 2013 as the JYP trainee identified as lead vocalist of an upcoming group.
DAY6 debuted on September 7, 2015, with EP The Day and lead single "Congratulations." As the group leader, Sungjin anchored DAY6's live-band K-pop identity -- a rarity in idol culture where the full lineup performs as actual instrumentalists. He contributed to landmark tracks including "Congratulations," "Happy," "Melt Down," "Time of Our Life," and "Welcome to the Show."
Sungjin announced mandatory military service on March 8, 2021, and served as a drill instructor before being discharged on September 7, 2022. He returned to broadcast activities the following month and hosted KBS Station Z weekly from November 2022. On November 5, 2024, he released his first solo full-length album 30 with title track "Check Pattern," then held his first solo concert at Kwangwoon University's Donghae Arts Center (November 8-10, 2024), completing his transition from band anchor to standalone artist.
