Taemin

Taemin (태민), born Lee Taemin (이태민) on July 18, 1993, in Seoul, is the youngest member of SHINee and one of K-pop's most accomplished solo performers. He debuted with SHINee under SM Entertainment in May 2008 at just 14 years old, and over 18 years has evolved from the group's shy maknae into a performer whose artistry commands respect across the entire industry. As a soloist, Taemin pioneered a darker, more experimental approach to K-pop performance. His 2014 debut mini album Ace established his signature blend of contemporary dance, R&B vocals, and theatrical staging. Press Your Number (2016), Move (2017), and Want (2019) each pushed further into territory that few idol soloists dared to explore. The "Move" choreography became a cultural moment, widely imitated and cited as one of the most influential K-pop dance performances of the decade. After completing military service (2021-2023), Taemin left SM Entertainment in early 2024 after 16 years and signed with Big Planet Made Entertainment. His Ephemeral Gaze world tour (2024-2025) spanned Asia, North America, and Europe, proving his global draw remained intact. However, financial mismanagement at Big Planet Made, including delayed settlements and unauthorized contracts signed on his behalf, led Taemin to terminate his contract in February 2026 after less than two years. He reportedly paid his staff's salaries out of pocket when the agency couldn't. Now a free agent at 32, Taemin carries 18 years of brand equity and a devoted global fanbase. His next move is one of the most watched decisions in K-pop.
