Gugudan

Gugudan was the Jellyfish Entertainment girl group that tried to turn the post-Produce 101 rush into a sharper, more theatrical kind of idol pop. The nine-member team debuted in June 2016 with Act. 1 The Little Mermaid, arriving with immediate attention on members like Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina after their breakout visibility through I.O.I. Instead of chasing one fixed image, Gugudan kept shifting format across brightly staged singles, tighter performance records, and sub-unit work. That range gave the group a catalog that now reads more ambitious than its commercial results suggested in real time. Even without a long run at the top of the market, Gugudan still holds a clear place in third-generation K-pop because it captured both the opportunity and the volatility of the Produce era. The group officially disbanded on December 31, 2020 after several years of slowed activity.
