James (제임스; born Chao Yufan, 趙雨凡; English name: James Chao; Korean name: Woo-beom / 우범) is a member of CORTIS, BigHit Music's five-member boy group under HYBE. Born October 14, 2005 in Taipei, Taiwan, he is of mixed Thai (maternal) and Chinese (paternal) descent and is fluent in Thai, Chinese, Korean, English, and Japanese. James was a trainee with BigHit's pre-debut group Trainee A from 2021 until its disbandment in 2022. Before CORTIS's debut, he contributed choreography and songwriting to multiple HYBE releases -- including ILLIT's "Magnetic," "Cherish (My Love)," and "Tick-Tack," and TXT's "Deja Vu" and "Miracle" -- and performed as a backing dancer for Jung Kook's live performances of "Seven." As a member of CORTIS, James co-wrote three tracks on the debut EP Color Outside the Lines: "GO!", "JoyRide," and "Lullaby," and contributed to the "GO!" choreography. He is the oldest member of the group and one of its most experienced pre-debut creatives.
