Jung Dong-won
Jung Dong-won (정동원) broke through fast enough to redraw what a trot rookie could look like. Born in 2007 and signed to ShowPlay Entertainment, he debuted with the EP Miracle in December 2019, then hit national scale months later when he finished fifth on TV Chosun's Mr. Trot at just 13. That run made him the format's youngest finalist and locked in the Trot Prince tag early.
What makes Jung more than a one-lane success story is the way he kept widening the frame. He carried the family-audience pull of TV trot into acting, variety, and a younger idol-facing market, then launched the JD1 alter ego in 2024 with Who Am I. The move did not abandon his core audience. It showed how comfortably he could operate between traditional Korean vocal culture and a more contemporary K-pop presentation.
That flexibility is why his 2026 enlistment landed as a real pause rather than a fadeout. Jung entered the Republic of Korea Marine Corps on February 23, 2026 at 18, stepping away while still in growth mode. Even on hold, the profile is unusually strong: a teenage star with deep television recall, a serious physical-sales audience, and enough range to return to either trot, idol-pop, or screen work without needing a full reset.
