Jung Dong-won
Jung Dong-won (정동원), born March 19, 2007, in Hadong County, South Gyeongsang Province, is a South Korean trot singer and actor under ShowPlay Entertainment. He first appeared on national television at age 11 on KBS's Korea Sings (National Singing Contest) in 2018, winning the Excellence Award. The following December, he debuted as a trot singer with the EP Miracle.
In 2020, at age 13, Jung became the youngest finalist in the history of TV Chosun's Mr. Trot, finishing fifth in the competition and earning the nickname Trot Prince. His age and vocal maturity made him a standout, and he built a fanbase that spans the traditional trot demographic and younger K-pop audiences. His fan club, Space Mobilization (우주총동원), is named as a play on his name meaning universal mobilization.
In January 2024, ShowPlay launched JD1, a K-pop idol persona for Jung, debuting with the single Who Am I. The concept positioned him as an AI idol character, a genre crossover experiment that extended his reach beyond trot. His discography includes EPs like The Giving Tree (2021), The Gift of Daddy-Long-Legs (2025), and albums spanning trot ballads to idol pop.
On February 23, 2026, Jung voluntarily enlisted in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, choosing the most demanding branch of military service. He completed basic training with the 1327th class on April 2, 2026. His expected discharge date is August 22, 2027, at which point he returns to civilian life at age 20.
