Taeyang

Taeyang (태양), born Dong Young-bae (동영배), is the vocal backbone of BIGBANG and one of K-Pop's most respected R&B voices. Since debuting with the group in 2006, he has built a parallel solo career defined by smooth vocals, sharp choreography, and an authenticity that set him apart in an industry often criticized for artificiality. His solo debut Hot (2008) introduced a rawer, R&B-driven sound to mainstream K-Pop. Rise (2014) peaked at number one in South Korea and spawned "Eyes, Nose, Lips," a ballad so iconic it generated over 30 verified cover versions by other K-Pop artists. The song became the most-covered K-Pop track of its era and a wedding staple across Asia. After completing military service and departing YG Entertainment in December 2022, Taeyang signed with THEBLACKLABEL and released "Vibe" featuring Jimin of BTS in January 2023, a cross-generational collab that topped charts in 30 countries. His Light Year Tour (2024-2025) marked his first solo concerts in seven years, selling out venues across Asia with an encore run at Inspire Arena in Incheon. Married to actress Min Hyo-rin (민효린) since 2018, Taeyang balances family life with a creative output that remains remarkably consistent. As BIGBANG prepares for their 20th anniversary return in 2026 including Coachella, Taeyang's voice remains the group's emotional anchor.
