THE BLACK LABEL

THE BLACK LABEL is the South Korean music production and artist management company founded by Teddy Park in 2016 as a subsidiary of YG Entertainment. Teddy, the architect behind virtually every BLACKPINK title track from "Boombayah" to "Pink Venom," built the label to give producers and artists a more independent creative space within the YG ecosystem. The roster is stacked. Rosé signed with THE BLACK LABEL in June 2024 for her solo career, and the move paid off spectacularly: her debut album Rosie, co-released with Atlantic Records, debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and produced the global hit "APT." featuring Bruno Mars. TAEYANG of BIGBANG released his third studio album through the label in 2023, including the chart-topping "Vibe" featuring Jimin. Jeon Somi continues to build her solo career under the imprint, while producer-artists like 24 and Vince supply beats across the K-pop landscape. Teddy's signature production style is unmistakable: minimalist arrangements that hit harder than anything twice as dense, bass-heavy drops paired with melodic hooks, and a pop sensibility that translates across languages and markets. His production credits extend far beyond THE BLACK LABEL's own roster, supplying hits to artists across YG and beyond. The label's in-house creative team has become one of the most sought-after production units in Korean music. Under a US distribution deal with Atlantic Records (Warner Music Group), THE BLACK LABEL has direct access to Western markets without relying on YG's international infrastructure. The label operates from Seoul, maintaining creative independence while benefiting from YG's corporate backing and industry relationships. In a K-pop landscape dominated by agency systems, THE BLACK LABEL has carved out a unique position as a producer-led imprint where the music comes first.

Fans Also Ask

Who founded THE BLACK LABEL?
THE BLACK LABEL was founded in 2015 by producer Teddy Park (박홍준) alongside fellow YG producer Kush (Cho Ju-young), as a subsidiary of YG Entertainment. Teddy built the label to operate with greater creative autonomy than typical K-pop imprints -- housing producers as principals rather than employees. While Kush stepped back from the label in 2023 following personal legal issues, Teddy has remained its driving creative force.
Which artists are signed to THE BLACK LABEL?
THE BLACK LABEL's artist roster includes Rosé (who signed with the label in June 2024 for her solo career), TAEYANG of BIGBANG, and singer-songwriter Jeon Somi. The label also houses producer-artists including Zion.T, 24, and Vince. On the production side, Teddy Park and his creative team supply music to artists across YG Entertainment and major international partners, including Western acts via the Atlantic Records deal.
How is THE BLACK LABEL connected to Atlantic Records?
THE BLACK LABEL signed a US distribution deal with Atlantic Records, part of Warner Music Group, giving the label direct Western market access independent of YG Entertainment's international infrastructure. This deal was most visibly leveraged for Rosé's debut album Rosie (2024), which co-released through Atlantic and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 -- making Rosé the highest-charting Korean solo artist in Billboard 200 history at the time of release.
Did Teddy Park write and produce BLACKPINK's songs?
Yes. Teddy Park wrote and produced virtually every major BLACKPINK title track, including 'Boombayah,' 'DDU-DU DDU-DU,' 'Kill This Love,' 'How You Like That,' 'Lovesick Girls,' and 'Pink Venom.' His production work defined BLACKPINK's signature sound -- minimal but hard-hitting, with bass-heavy drops and hooky English-Korean lyrics -- across the group's entire commercial run as YG's flagship girl group.
