Sung Si-kyung Steps Up as the Ninth Host of KBS2's The Seasons
Korea's Prince of Ballads Sung Si-kyung (성시경) is confirmed as the ninth host of KBS2's late-night music talk show, taking over from 10CM's record-breaking 25-episode run.
March 11, 2026
Korea's most trusted voice is stepping behind the mic in a new way. Sung Si-kyung (성시경), the singer widely celebrated as Korea's "Prince of Ballads," has been confirmed as the ninth host of KBS2's late-night music talk show "The Seasons" (더 시즌즈). KBS made the announcement official on March 2, 2026, and the industry reaction was immediate: this is exactly the kind of choice that makes sense.
The Right Voice for the Room
Sung Si-kyung has been a fixture in Korean entertainment since his debut in 2001. More than two decades of recording, live performance, and television work have turned him into something rare: an artist who commands genuine respect across generations. His smooth baritone built a career on ballads that became standards, and his natural ease in front of a camera made him a go-to host for variety programming long before "The Seasons" came calling.
Season 9's subtitle and broadcast schedule have not yet been announced, with KBS confirming only that "further details will be released at a later date." Based on the show's typical format, the new season is expected to begin airing in March 2026.
The Show He Is Inheriting
"The Seasons" launched on KBS2 in February 2023 as the direct successor to "You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook," which ran for 13 years and became a cornerstone of Korea's late-night music culture. The format carries that 30-year tradition forward with a twist: instead of a permanent host, each season brings a different artist who puts their own stamp on the show through in-depth interviews, live performances, and their own musical perspective.
The eight seasons to date have featured a remarkable lineup. Jay Park opened the show with "Jay Park's Drive" in early 2023. Choi Jung-hoon of Jannabi followed with "Choi Jung-hoon's Night Park." Then came AKMU, the sibling duo of Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun, hosting "Long Day, Long Night with AKMU." Lee Hyori brought glamour and edge to "Lee Hyo-ri's Red Carpet" in early 2024. Zico followed with "Zico's Artist," then Lee Young-ji hosted "Lee Young-ji's Rainbow," and actor Park Bo-gum became the show's first non-musician host with "Park Bo-gum's Cantabile."
10CM Closes a Record Chapter
Sung Si-kyung inherits the seat from 10CM, the indie folk-pop act led by Kwon Jung-yeol, whose season "10CM's Pat-Pat" (10CM의 쓰담쓰담) aired from September 2025 through its final episode on March 6, 2026. With 25 episodes, 10CM finished as the longest-serving host in the show's history, a milestone Kwon Jung-yeol acknowledged with characteristic wit during the finale, joking that he hoped future hosts would struggle to match his record.
The contrast between 10CM's indie folk sensibility and Sung Si-kyung's polished, classic ballad legacy is precisely the kind of tonal shift that keeps "The Seasons" compelling season after season. Each transition resets the room. That is the whole point.
What to Expect
Sung Si-kyung is not a newcomer to hosting. His television credits span major KBS programs, variety shows, and music specials across two decades. He knows how to make guests comfortable, and he has the conversational depth that works for a show built around intimate music performances and honest conversation. In a format that rewards genuine warmth and musical fluency over spectacle, those qualities are precisely what the audience comes for.
Season 9's title and confirmed premiere date remain pending. Once KBS releases the full schedule, Friday late-night airings on KBS2 are expected to continue, as they have throughout the show's run. International viewers can follow through KBS World, which has carried previous seasons with English subtitles.
With eight seasons behind it and the ninth now confirmed, "The Seasons" has established itself as the destination where Korean artists show audiences who they actually are beyond the music. Sung Si-kyung has spent 25 years making that kind of connection. Now viewers get front-row seats to see what that looks like when the artist is also the host.
