DRIPPIN's first subunit ChaDongHyeop sets 'Doogeundae' debut for May 12
DRIPPIN's first subunit ChaDongHyeop will debut on May 12 with Doogeundae, putting Cha Jun-ho, Kim Dong-yun, and Lee Hyeop at the center of Woollim Entertainment's latest group reset.

DRIPPIN's first subunit ChaDongHyeop will debut on May 12 with the single “Doogeundae,” according to Korea JoongAng Daily's April 24 report on Woollim Entertainment's announcement. The unit pairs Cha Jun-ho (차준호), Kim Dong-yun (김동윤), and Lee Hyeop (이협), giving the group its first formal split project since DRIPPIN debuted in 2020 with Boyager. That matters because subunits only work when a label sees a lane worth isolating, and Woollim is clearly betting this trio can sell a lighter, more focused color than the full group's usual performance-first pitch in 2026. Woollim said in its release notes, as quoted by JoongAng, that “Doogeundae” will highlight the three members' “refreshing charm.” For a group still looking for its sharpest commercial angle, ChaDongHyeop feels less like a side project and more like a strategic reset.
Woollim is selling ChaDongHyeop as a distinct visual unit from day one
StarNews Korea reported on April 20 that Woollim first introduced ChaDongHyeop through an official logo motion on the label's social channels, framing the trio as DRIPPIN's first unit project since debut. That rollout matters almost as much as the single announcement because it shows how the concept is being positioned before anyone hears the record. According to StarNews Korea, the teaser used pink toned graphics, star, heart, and flower motifs, and typography built around the unit's Korean initials, giving the project a deliberately kitschy, youthful, and fresh visual lane. In K pop terms, that is a real contrast play. DRIPPIN has never lacked polished performance material, but this campaign suggests Woollim wants Cha Jun-ho, Kim Dong-yun, and Lee Hyeop pushed as a chemistry first trio with a softer and more playful identity.
ChaDongHyeop gives DRIPPIN a cleaner story to tell in 2026
Korea JoongAng Daily also noted that DRIPPIN debuted as a septet in 2020 and now promotes as a six member group after Alex left in July 2023, which gives this unit launch extra weight inside the group's timeline. Subunits can look cosmetic when a full group is already peaking, but this one reads more like a recalibration. A three member team lets Woollim narrow the message, test new styling, and put specific chemistry in the spotlight without needing to reintroduce the entire group at once. That is especially notable in a year when the label is already under closer watch across its roster, including our recent coverage of Kwon Eun-bi's exit from Woollim Entertainment. If “Doogeundae” lands, ChaDongHyeop could become more than a one cycle experiment. It could become DRIPPIN's clearest branding move since debut.
What to watch before the May 12 debut
The next proof point is simple: Woollim has confirmed the unit name, lineup, and May 12 release date, but it has not yet revealed the full musical identity behind “Doogeundae,” according to the JoongAng report and Woollim's teaser rollout cited by StarNews Korea. That leaves real room for anticipation instead of empty noise. If the company follows the logo motion and teaser art with a sharper concept trailer, performance snippet, or highlight medley, the unit has a chance to define itself fast. We have seen plenty of K pop subunits arrive as scheduling filler. This one feels more deliberate. ChaDongHyeop is built from members fans already know, but the early branding suggests Woollim wants them read as a new shape, not just a smaller DRIPPIN. For a group that still has upside left, that is the smart bet.
