Red Velvet

Red Velvet (레드벨벳) is a five-member girl group formed by SM Entertainment, debuting on August 1, 2014 with the single "Happiness." Original members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy were joined by Yeri in March 2015. The group built a dual concept spanning bright, hook-driven pop and dark, sensory-heavy R&B, releasing a catalog that stayed relevant across multiple genre cycles. The Red side delivers sugar-rush singles. The Velvet side reveals a group capable of cinematic atmosphere and controlled restraint. That range is the whole point. Key releases include the ReVe Festival trilogy (2019), Queendom (2021), studio album Chill Kill (2023, all-time high first-week sales for the group), and the Cosmic EP (2024), released to coincide with their tenth anniversary.
