Son Ho-young
Son Ho-young (손호영), born Andrew Son on March 26, 1980, in New Jersey, is a South Korean-American singer and musical theater actor. Best known as the lead vocalist of g.o.d (지오디), the first-generation K-pop quintet that debuted in January 1999 under JYP Entertainment and became one of South Korea's most beloved groups of the era.
His path to music was unlikely. After leaving home at seventeen and spending time on the streets, Ho-young befriended future g.o.d bandmate Danny Ahn, whose cousin Joon Park was assembling a group for Park Jin-young's label. His raw vocal ability earned him a spot. His emotive delivery became central to the group's identity on songs like Road (길), To Mother (어머님께), and One Candle (촛불 하나).
When g.o.d went on hiatus in late 2005, Ho-young pivoted to solo music and Korean musical theater. He made his solo debut in September 2006 with the studio album Yes. He has since become a regular on Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend, showcasing vocal range that goes beyond his group image, and has performed in numerous stage productions under the alias SHY.
g.o.d reunited in 2014 with Ho-young returning as a full member. He remains active with the group through 2025, balancing concerts, solo releases, and theater work. He is currently signed to Beat Interactive.
