Young K

Kang Young-hyun (강영현), known as Young K (and also by his English name Brian Kang), is the main rapper, lead vocalist, and bassist of DAY6, the pop-rock group under JYP Entertainment. Born December 19, 1993, he grew up between South Korea and Canada, an experience that shaped his bilingual lyrical instincts and widened the emotional register he brings to DAY6's writing room. Every DAY6 album traces Young K's fingerprints: he is a co-writer across the bulk of the group's discography and has pushed its sonic range further than any other member, writing everything from chart-topping melodic pop to reflective bedroom folk without losing the thread. His solo debut came in September 2021 with the mini-album Eternal, a candid statement of intent that leaned into late-night R&B and singer-songwriter vulnerability. He also leads Even of Day, a DAY6 sub-unit, alongside Wonpil and Dowoon. Young K has spoken openly about mental health and the emotional cost of the entertainment industry. That transparency is part of what makes him one of the more substantive voices in his generation of K-pop, where introspection is often a brand asset rather than an actual practice.
