Republic Records is an American record label headquartered in New York City, owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). Founded in 1995 by brothers Monte Lipman and Avery Lipman as an independent venture, it was acquired by UMG in 2000 and has since become one of the most commercially powerful imprints in modern music.
Republic's current roster spans pop, hip-hop, R&B, and rock, with major acts including Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Drake, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, and Jonas Brothers. In 2023, Republic set a record for the longest streak atop the Billboard 200 in 25 years, including simultaneous top-six album placements on a single chart date.
In K-pop, Republic serves as the US distributor for JYP Entertainment's global acts, handling music from ITZY, NMIXX, and TWICE in North America. The label also distributed BTS and HYBE America projects during a key period of the Korean Wave's US crossover. Monte Lipman serves as CEO, with Avery Lipman as President and COO. The New York office is set to relocate near Madison Square Garden as part of UMG's broader real estate consolidation announced in 2025.
