TWICE

TWICE (트와이스) started as a TV experiment and became K-pop's most durable export. Formed through Mnet's Sixteen competition in 2015 and signed to JYP Entertainment, the nine-member group -- Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu -- debuted on October 20 with "Like OOH-AHH," a dance performance video that hit 300 million YouTube views. Their 2016 track "Cheer Up" won Song of the Year at both the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards, establishing the formula they would perfect for years: concept-driven pop that operates as pure cultural wallpaper. By 2020, TWICE had become the first K-pop girl group to sell 1 million copies of an album, the first to sell out five Tokyo Dome shows, and the benchmark act against which every subsequent girl group is measured. They renewed their JYP contracts in 2022 while maintaining individual creative flexibility. Their fifth world tour, Ready to Be (2023), drew 1.5 million attendees globally. In 2025, TWICE released their fourth full album THIS IS FOR on July 11, debuting at number one on the South Korean Circle Album Chart and number six on the US Billboard 200. They became the first K-pop girl group to headline Lollapalooza, drawing one of the festival's largest-ever crowds. The THIS IS FOR World Tour generated $93.8 million in its first 24 reported shows, averaging 27,995 attendees per night. TWICE maintain active solo careers alongside group work: Nayeon, Jihyo, Momo, Sana, Dahyun, and others have released solo projects, each charting independently. Their long-term creative consistency -- nine years, nine members, zero departures -- is the exception that proves the rule in an industry built on attrition.
