KARD's Somin Announces Solo Debut EP 'UNVEIL' for April 2
KARD vocalist Somin is making her solo debut with her first EP, UNVEIL, releasing April 2, 2026. Here's everything we know about the concept and what it means for KARD's expanding solo season.
March 23, 2026
KARD (카드) vocalist Somin (소민) is making her solo debut. The co-ed group's Black JokeR member has announced her first EP titled UNVEIL, set to release on April 2, 2026, confirmed by DSP Media via an official statement on March 22. The announcement came with the release of a concept poster that immediately caught the attention of Hidden KARD, the group's dedicated global fanbase. In the poster, Somin appears draped in a sheer, silvery-white sequined veil, dressed entirely in white, her gaze partially obscured by the delicate fabric. The imagery is deliberate and loaded. A veil that promises to be lifted. One look at that poster and UNVEIL's whole premise clicks into place. This isn't just a solo debut. It's a formal introduction to a side of Somin that nearly a decade with KARD has only hinted at, and fans want to see it.
The UNVEIL Concept: All White, All Mystery
Confirmed by DSP Media via an official announcement on March 22, 2026, UNVEIL arrives as a high-concept solo debut built entirely around the act of revelation. The title is the thesis. In the concept poster, Somin kneels in a full-body pose beneath the word UNVEIL, rendered in textured, glowing serif typography. A crystalline, icy veil cascades from her head to her knees. Everything in the frame is white or silver. The aesthetic lands somewhere between bridal and ethereal, between a fashion editorial and a debut album cover. It is a striking opening statement from an artist who has spent years operating within the visual language of a co-ed group. Whatever Somin looks like when the veil comes off on April 2, she has already made the case that the solo version of herself will be worth paying attention to.
KARD's Solo Season Is Running
The UNVEIL announcement follows the solo debut of KARD's other female member, Jiwoo (지우), who released her first EP (EX)IST on February 11, 2026. Jiwoo's lead single "Home Sweet Home" landed well with Hidden KARD, and the B-side "Dang Dong," produced with fellow KARD member BM, became a fan favorite almost immediately. With both of KARD's female vocalists launching solo projects in the same year, 2026 is shaping up as the group's most expansive individual era. KARD wrapped their 2025 DRIFT world tour and their members have clearly been given space to develop outside the group format. That is not common in fourth-generation K-pop, where label schedules tend to be airtight. DSP Media deserves credit for letting KARD breathe.
Somin, KARD's Black JokeR
Somin has been one of KARD's most visually and vocally distinctive members since the group formed under DSP Media in 2017. Born Jeon So-min (전소민) on August 22, 1996, she brings an extensive K-pop background that predates KARD by years. Before joining the co-ed group, Somin debuted in Puretty, DSP Media's Japanese girl group, in September 2012, a project that ran until 2014. She later competed on the Kara Project audition program and finished in second place in the nationwide search to become a new member of legendary girl group KARA, according to DSP Media's official group history. Somin briefly joined April as its leader in August 2015 but departed in November of that year. When KARD launched its pre-debut project series in December 2016, she was assigned the Black JokeR card, a role that captures her balance of elegance and edge. UNVEIL marks her first step as a true solo artist.
April 2 Is the Date to Mark
Somin's 1st EP UNVEIL drops April 2, 2026 (KST). At the time of writing, track details and pre-order links have not yet been released. The tight rollout from concept poster to release date suggests DSP Media has a focused promotional window planned. Hidden KARD on X were loud about it after the poster dropped, with the consensus landing somewhere between stunned and ready. We have been watching Somin hold it down in KARD since 2016. April 2 is her moment to show what she sounds like alone.
