M Countdown Unveils New MC Trio: TREASURE's So Jung Hwan, ZEROBASEONE's Park Gun Wook, and KickFlip's Kyehoon
Mnet announces So Jung Hwan (TREASURE), Park Gun Wook (ZEROBASEONE), and Kyehoon (KickFlip) as the new M Countdown hosts, creating a generational bridge across 4th, 5th gen, and rookie K-pop.
March 13, 2026
Mnet just shook up M Countdown with a generational power move. On March 11, the network confirmed that TREASURE's So Jung Hwan, ZEROBASEONE's Park Gun Wook, and KickFlip's Kyehoon will take over hosting duties for K-pop's flagship Thursday music show. This isn't just a routine MC swap. It's a deliberate bridge across three generations of idol talent.
The Lineup: Three Generations, One Stage
The trio represents a calculated cross-section of K-pop's current landscape. So Jung Hwan brings seven years of YG Entertainment polish as TREASURE's maknae turned veteran. Park Gun Wook carries WAKEONE's fifth-gen energy from ZEROBASEONE, the group that dominated 2023's debut season. And Kyehoon represents JYP Entertainment's newest chapter with KickFlip, who only debuted in January 2025.
The succession story here matters. Park Gun Wook is stepping into the role previously held by his own groupmate, Sung Han Bin. That's not coincidence. It's continuity.
What They Said
So Jung Hwan framed his approach around TREASURE's stage presence: "Just as TREASURE's powerful performances give energy to many people, I will do my best as an MC to carry that atmosphere forward and create a space where everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy themselves together."
Park Gun Wook acknowledged the weight of following his groupmate: "I'm very happy and honored to take on this position that Han Bin has cared for over such a long time. I'll work even harder as a new MC, so please look forward to it."
Kyehoon brought personal history into it. M Countdown was the stage where KickFlip first performed after debut. "It's a great honor to return to the stage where I achieved my dream of debuting," he said, "this time as an MC alongside senior, junior, and fellow artists." He added a playful note about showing "Kyehoon-like energy," a pun that sounds like "refreshing" in Korean.
Why This Matters
Mnet's production team positioned this as a chemistry experiment: "The fresh chemistry created by these three artists, each with their own unique charm, will bring new energy to M Countdown. Through their dynamic teamwork and witty hosting, we hope to deliver new enjoyment to global K-pop fans."
Translation: they're betting that mixing a YG-trained veteran with a WAKEONE survival show winner and a JYP rookie will create something that feels less scripted and more genuine. Whether that bet pays off depends on how much freedom these three get to actually be themselves on air.
M Countdown airs every Thursday at 6 PM KST.
