Jennie (제니), born Jennie Kim on January 16, 1996 in Seongnam, South Korea, is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and actress who redefined what a K-pop soloist can be. She moved to New Zealand at age eight, returned to South Korea in 2010, and auditioned for YG Entertainment that same year. After six years of training, she debuted as a member of BLACKPINK in August 2016. When "SOLO" dropped in November 2018, it became the first song by a Korean female soloist to cross one billion YouTube views. Jennie topped South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Songs with it, setting a floor that her subsequent releases would clear. "You & Me" hit number one on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart in 2023. "Spot!" with ZICO became her second domestic chart-topper in 2024. In 2023, she founded ODD ATELIER, her own label, and signed with Columbia Records in 2024. Her debut album Ruby (2025) sold one million copies worldwide, tied for the highest-ranking album by a Korean solo artist on the UK Albums Chart, and produced two Billboard Global 200 top-five hits: "Mantra" broke the record for the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist on the UK Singles Chart, while "Like Jennie" became her third number-one in South Korea. At the 40th Golden Disc Awards, she became the first artist to win Artist of the Year. She also became the first Korean soloist to win a Billboard Women in Music Award. Long regarded as the face of Chanel in Asia, she has served as a global ambassador for the house since 2017. She made her acting debut as Dyanne in HBO's The Idol (2023).
