Summer Sonic

Summer Sonic is one of Japan's defining large-format music festivals, built on a two-city structure that gives Chiba and Osaka parallel but distinct versions of the same cultural event. Since launching in 2000 under Creativeman, it has held real booking weight across pop, rock, electronic music, hip-hop, and now a much deeper Korean-act lane than older festival models usually allowed.

That depth is what makes the brand relevant to HITKULTR. Summer Sonic does not treat Korean artists like decorative add-ons. By 2026, the lineup conversation included acts such as Jennie, LE SSERAFIM, BABYMONSTER, AKMU, Xdinary Heroes, and TWS, which signals a broader programming shift across idol pop, bands, and crossover acts rather than one narrow K-pop slot.

The festival's two-city rotation also matters commercially. Artists typically move between Osaka and the Tokyo-area site on consecutive days, which gives Summer Sonic a touring logic while preserving the prestige of a festival booking. In Asia's live market, that structure has made it one of the clearest indicators of who is breaking beyond local fandom demand into larger premium-event infrastructure.
