NCT

NCT (Neo Culture Technology, 엔시티) is a South Korean boy group formed by SM Entertainment in 2016 with a unique unlimited membership concept. Rather than operating as a fixed unit, NCT functions as a collective with multiple simultaneous sub-units, each with distinct members, sounds, and market territories. The group was introduced on April 9, 2016, with the debut of NCT U. Sub-units have since expanded to include NCT U (rotating concept unit), NCT 127 (Seoul-based international act), NCT Dream (youth unit), NCT WayV (pan-Asian market), NCT Wish, and most recently NCT JNJM, the franchise's first fixed duo configuration featuring Jeno and Jaemin, who debuted February 23, 2026 with the mini album BOTH SIDES. As of 2025, the NCT universe comprises 25 members across all sub-units, making it K-pop's largest single-umbrella group structure. NCT 127, the flagship Seoul sub-unit, became one of the most commercially successful acts in the franchise, achieving multiple million-selling albums with Sticker (2021), 2 Baddies (2022), and Fact Check (2023). Combined NCT releases consistently rank on the Billboard 200 and Oricon charts simultaneously. NCT has released four studio albums as a combined unit and has held large-scale NCT Universe concerts bringing together sub-units from across the franchise. Their model, once experimental, has been studied as a template for how entertainment companies can manage large-scale artist ecosystems while maintaining distinct identities across audience segments.
