In just 101 weeks, a five-member rookie group from South Korea accomplished something no international female artist has done before in Japanese streaming history. ILLIT's debut single "Magnetic" (자석) surpassed 300 million cumulative streams on Oricon's Weekly Streaming Ranking as of March 1, 2026, making it the fastest track by a foreign female artist to reach that threshold on Japan's most prestigious chart.

Oricon, often called the Billboard of Japan, confirmed the milestone on March 4. The exact tally: 300,289,729 streams. No other international female act had cleared 300 million streams in this timeframe on the same chart. For a group in its second year of existence, that number is not a footnote. It's a statement.

What Makes This Record Significant

Oricon has tracked Japan's music industry for over 50 years. It is the authoritative record for Japanese chart performance, the equivalent of Billboard in the United States. Cracking Oricon's Weekly Streaming Ranking at all is a milestone for any foreign act. Holding a spot long enough to accumulate 300 million streams is in a different category entirely.

"Magnetic" entered the chart and moved fast. It hit 100 million streams on Oricon in the week dated June 17, 2024, the fastest any female group had reached that mark. Two years later, the song is still charting, still accumulating, and now holds a record no other international female artist has claimed.

The Track Record of "Magnetic"

Released March 25, 2024 as the title track from ILLIT's debut mini album SUPER REAL ME, "Magnetic" was immediately something different. It debuted at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first K-pop debut song to chart there. It also entered the UK's Official Singles Top 100, another first for a K-pop group's debut track.

On Spotify, "Magnetic" surpassed 700 million cumulative streams as of November 2025, the fastest achievement among debut songs by K-pop groups on the platform. Nearly two years on, the song still appears on Melon's daily chart, South Korea's primary barometer of mainstream popularity. That kind of staying power is rare. In K-pop, where the release cycle is relentless and yesterday's title track disappears fast, "Magnetic" has refused to leave.

About ILLIT

ILLIT (아일릿) debuted under Belift Lab, a HYBE subsidiary, formed through the 2023 JTBC survival competition R U Next?. The five members: YUNAH, MINJU, MOKA, WONHEE, and IROHA. Multinational by design, with IROHA as the group's Japanese member, which likely contributed to the group's strong foothold in the Japanese market from day one.

In March 2026, WONHEE ranked first in new idol individual brand reputation according to Star News Korea, further evidence of the group's grip on the next generation of K-pop fandom.

A debut single that breaks chart records in its first months, then continues to accumulate milestones two years later, while the group behind it sells out their first concert tour before a single ticket goes on general sale: this is the full picture of what ILLIT has built. The Oricon record is the latest proof.
