The news landed on March 10, just four days after Jisoo (지수) made her Netflix debut in Boyfriend on Demand. Canneseries, the international series festival held each April in the south of France, announced it will present Jisoo with the 2026 Madame Figaro Rising Star Award. It is the kind of recognition that makes it official: she is no longer just a K-pop star doing acting on the side. She is a legitimate global entertainment figure, and the world outside Korea is starting to say so out loud.

What the Award Actually Means

The Madame Figaro Rising Star Award has existed as part of Canneseries since the festival launched, and its previous recipients read like a shortlist of the most in-demand actresses in prestige television. Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sydney Sweeney, Ella Purnell, Morfydd Clark, Phoebe Dynevor, Marie Colomb. Every single one of them went on to headline major productions. The award has a track record of spotting rising talent just before the mainstream catches up.

Canneseries artistic director Albin Lewi was direct about why Jisoo was chosen. He pointed to her artistic journey, her ability to conquer new creative territories, and her global aura as the deciding factors. The festival described her as an artist who crosses borders between music and acting, which is an accurate summary of what she has spent the last several years actually doing.

The award will be presented during the Canneseries opening ceremony on April 23, 2026. The festival runs April 23-28 in Cannes, France.

Boyfriend on Demand Set This Up

Jisoo's Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand (월간남친) premiered March 6, 2026, opposite Seo In-guk. She plays Seo Mi-rae, a burned-out webtoon producer who turns to a virtual dating subscription service for a shot at romance. The show entered the Netflix Global Top 10 in its first week, reaching the top 10 in multiple countries. It is the highest-rated Korean drama debut of 2026.

The timing of the Canneseries announcement is not a coincidence. Boyfriend on Demand gave international audiences a concrete, accessible reason to pay attention to Jisoo as an actress, and Canneseries responded within days of the premiere.

A Decade Building to This Moment

Jisoo debuted with BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) under YG Entertainment in August 2016. The group went on to sell out world tours and break streaming records globally. By the time Jisoo launched her solo career, the infrastructure for global reach was already there.

On the music side: her single Flower sold over one million copies. Her EP Amortage, released in February 2025 through her own label Blissoo, extended that momentum. Her duet Eyes Closed with Zayn Malik entered the Billboard Hot 100. She currently has over 80 million Instagram followers, making her one of the most-followed Korean personalities on the platform.

The acting career has been building at a similar pace. She took her first lead role in Snowdrop (2021), which generated significant attention domestically and internationally. In 2025 she starred in both the film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy and the series Newtopia. The recognition followed: Best New Actress at the 2nd DDU Awards, Best Actress in a Series at the Brazil Acervo Awards, and honors at the Seoul International Drama Awards.

The Canneseries award places her in a completely different conversation, alongside Western actresses whose careers have crossed from television into film, fashion, and cultural commentary. That is the company she is now keeping.

What Happens April 23

Jisoo will walk the Canneseries pink carpet at the opening ceremony on April 23, 2026. Canneseries Season 9 runs through April 28. We will be watching.
