Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is one of South Korea's "Big Three" terrestrial broadcasters alongside KBS and SBS. Founded on February 21, 1961, MBC began as the first non-governmental commercial broadcaster in Korea and has grown into a multimedia conglomerate with television, radio, cable, satellite, and digital platforms. Headquartered in Digital Media City (DMC), Mapo-gu, Seoul since 2014, MBC operates the largest broadcast production facilities in Korea, including the Dream Center in Ilsan and the outdoor sets at Yongin Daejanggeum Park. MBC played a foundational role in the Korean Wave. Its 1997 drama "What on Earth Is Love?" became the first K-drama to spark a boom across China when it aired on CCTV. Dae Jang Geum (2003) reached 91 countries worldwide. The network has exported hit formats including I Am a Singer, We Got Married, and Dad! Where Are We Going?. Recent MBC dramas include Byeon Woo-seok and IU in Perfect Crown (2026), Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, and The King: Eternal Monarch. The network hosts flagship music programs like Music Core and annual events including the MBC Entertainment Awards and MBC Drama Awards. MBC maintains international reach through MBC America, distributing programming throughout the Americas, and bureaus spanning North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
