I.O.I
I.O.I (아이오아이) still reads like the prototype for modern K-pop project groups. Formed through Produce 101 in 2016, the 11-member act turned a one-season television experiment into a real commercial event, then reset expectations for what a temporary group could do in a matter of months. That original run delivered Chrysalis, Miss Me?, and hits that still sit near the center of the survival-show canon.
The long tail matters just as much as the debut burst. Members including Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jeon Somi, Choi Yoojung, and Yoo Yeonjung kept extending I.O.I's cultural shelf life across solo music, acting, and later-group careers. In practice, the group never disappeared. It just fragmented into a decade-long influence chain that later project acts like Wanna One and IZ*ONE followed at scale.
That is why the 2026 reunion lands as more than nostalgia. Working with SWING Entertainment, I.O.I reopened official channels under the ioi_10th handle, set the third mini album I.O.I : LOOP for May 19, and mapped out the 2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP from Seoul. Nearly 10 years after debut, the group is no longer just remembered for starting a trend. It now looks like the blueprint that the rest of the project-group market kept iterating on.
